Motovario’s worm gearbox is tried and tested on applications the world over. Often imitated by inferior copies, the original product offers superior torque performance and reliability.
Motovario’s helical worm gearbox is the perfect blend of compact design and high torque transmission. Combining worm gears with helical gears, they deliver smooth operation and exceptional efficiency.
Motovario worm gearboxes are ideal for applications requiring low-speed, high-torque power.
The NMRV & NMRV-P series of worm gearboxes are available in 10 sizes, from 25mm to 150mm centres. Powers input up to 18.5kW. Cases up to 110mm centres are constructed from die-cast aluminium alloy, whilst 130mm and 150mm are in G200 grey cast iron. Standard ratios between 5 and 100:1 reduction & if combined with a helical stage ratios up to 850:1 are possible. A wide range of output bore sizes & mounting options are also available. Painted in RAL 5010 blue epoxy-polyester powder
We also provide the standard worm gearbox in SW Style round casing. This range was formally known as Spaggiari. Available in 7 sizes from 30mm to 105mm centres, output bores from 14mm to 42mm. These lightweight aluminium gearboxes are interchangeable with many other Italian brands.
Worm gearboxes are a popular choice for many low power applications such as conveyors and material handling, agricultural machinery, food processing and packaging, small mixers, agitators, screw feeds. In higher ratio selections they lend themselves to applications where backdrive needs to be prevented, such as small hoists or lifting applications.
These gearboxes are ideal for applications that require low-speed, high-torque power, such as material handling systems, conveyor belts, and packaging equipment.
Worm gearboxes are not necessarily energy efficient, particularly worm and wheel gearboxes with higher ratios.
In terms of torque loss, a typical worm & wheel gearbox at 10:1 ratio would be around 87% efficient, whilst at 100:1 it would be around 50% efficient, based on 1400rpm input speed.
The addition of a helical stage to a worm gearbox improves the overall efficiency (helical gears are around 99-98% efficient per stage) and the torque capacity of the gearbox (worm-wheel gearing has a higher torque capacity).
Despite not being the most efficient type of gearing, worm and wheel gearboxes have other advantages, such as preventing back drive under load conditions when stopped (generally achieved at ratios above 40:1) which can be particularly useful when the application involves lifting, turning or it is a conveyor with an incline.
Regular inspection, proper lubrication, and timely replacement of worn components are essential for maintaining the performance and longevity of these gearboxes.
